The manual was published in 2022 by forumZFD and the Association of History Teachers in Kosovo, focusing on women's activism during the 80s and 90s in Kosovo and teaching history from a gender perspective.
The chapters presented in this manual seek to:
• Promote gender as an analytical category in teaching history so that students understand and learn about the social constructs of gender and history;
• Apply gender analysis in various historical sources to develop critical thinking and gender sensitivity;
• Include visual methodologies in the teaching of history in order to foster interactive learning, critical thinking, and teamwork on topics concerning gender and women in history;
• Encourage curiosity and skill in historical research with a gender perspective.
Vjollca Islami Hajrullahu, responsible project manager at forumZFD: “The manual aims to help teachers to challenge the instrumentalization of the past, specifically when talking about women in peace and conflict of the past, and to enrich their teaching methods.”
During the workshop, more than 20 teachers were trained in how to use and adapt the manual in their lessons. They had the opportunity to dive deeper into gender analysis by learning how to foster an understanding and critical thinking among youth through lessons on “gender and women in history”.
