On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, forumZFD Jordan organized a ‘lunch event’ with local partner organizations, community activists and civil society actors with whom forumZFD Jordan works, as an attempt to foster an environment of harmony, collaboration and understanding amongst them. The gathering served as a celebration of our collective efforts while also providing an opportunity for reflection and collaboration. As guests arrived, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of purpose and camaraderie, setting the stage for rich exchanges. Each organization shared their unique experiences and insights on peacebuilding, highlighting both successes and challenges faced in our communities. Through engaging discussions, we explored innovative approaches to enhance our peace-building initiatives and address the persisting issues that we face in our work.
This lunch was not just a meal: it was a symbol of unity, to reinforce the idea that our diverse perspectives can create a stronger foundation for peace. By coming together in this way, we reaffirmed our commitment to working hand in hand, leveraging our strengths to build a more peaceful and inclusive society. As we concluded the event, attendees left with renewed energy and a clear sense of shared purpose, ready to implement new ideas and strategies in their respective organizations. This gathering was a powerful reminder that by collaborating and supporting one another, we can make significant strides toward lasting peace in our targeted communities.
In light of the ongoing global conflicts, participants reflected on the meaning of peace and peacebuilding work against a backdrop of escalating tensions in the region. Notably, in Jordan, peace is perceived not merely as the absence of war but as the presence of safety, social cohesion, and an end to societal tensions like racism and hate speech. Many attendees voiced hopes for the future, including themes of return and justice for the large refugee population in Jordan.
The partnership with forumZFD emerged as a crucial element in supporting these discussions. Attendees expressed positive feedback about how forumZFD has helped partners reach outside Amman and approach their work from a more participatory angle, stimulating greater community engagement. The unique focus on organizational capacity development has strengthened partners’ abilities in conflict sensitivity and community problem-solving. Participants highlighted the respect and trust fostered through this partnership, noting how forumZFD's approach to project design based on community needs has elevated the connection between national partners and the communities they serve. This collaboration has not only enhanced the effectiveness of peacebuilding efforts but also contributed to a culture of peace within the partner organizations themselves.
Looking ahead, attendees shared recommendations for future collaboration, emphasizing the importance of diverse partnerships, integrating marginalized voices, and aligning efforts with national strategies. Suggestions included engaging with the private sector, focusing on justice and equity, and developing resources for community empowerment in peacebuilding. Fortunately, many of these points are already being applied or developed in ongoing programs, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement and a shared vision for a more peaceful and just society.
Ultimately, peacebuilding today requires adaptability, collaboration, and a dedication to addressing the root causes of conflict, recognizing that the journey toward peace is an ongoing collective effort.
