The Salam Bus project is a mobile awareness raising platform for diverse population groups in northern Iraq for safe exchange and learning, funded by the Civil Peace Service Programme of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It currently employs three buses to meet and travel with participants from different population groups and areas, such as Ayadiya, Sinjar, Dohuk and Erbil, and make stops at suitable safe places to host peacebuilding activities inside and around the bus.
Due to the mobile nature of the Salam Bus project, teams are able to conduct activities even in remote areas and with people who are otherwise out of reach and therefore rarely served. In recognition of the pivotal role of youth and women in shaping their community, the measure focuses on harnessing these platforms for positive change, encouraging a mindset to take responsibility and actively counteract the impact of division by contributing to the cultivation of a more harmonious, understanding and peaceful community in northern Iraq instead.
